Orange fever

Have you ever seen an orange sportbike? Chances are you haven’t! That’s why when I decided to give my 2000 CBR a facelift I chose orange. The only motorcycles I have seen this color are online on Google. A few factory colors are close to orange but they are usually burnt orange or reddish orange. My bike is not a factory color. In fact, I used Krylon Pumpkin Orange. A new color from the company that can be found at most paint stores and even Walmart (my favorite store!)

The first step in the process was to disassemble the bike. So it quickly went from this:..
To this:..

Then came the sticker removal (a huge pain) sanding:

Now it was time to prime the pieces:

On the third night all the pieces were primed and ready for paint:

Finally, after many coats of paint and some custom work the finished product was ready:

And ready to assemble:

The finished product looks great!

And we’re ready to ride!

See all the pictures in my photo album at myspace.com/kevasus.

Now let’s see how it looks on one wheel!!!

More pictures on that subject coming later on.

New ride

Last time you read about a motorcycle on this site it was a cruiser. Since then I have decided to move up to a sportbike. This bike is a CBR600F4. It was born in 2000 and so I got a great deal on it.

For now I’m still getting used to it because it has a lot more power than the Vstar 1100 I started with only a few months ago.

Still, it’s a lot of fun and I hope to be able to take some track classes to improve my riding and give me a proper outlet for the speed and handling this bike is capable of so that I don’t feel the need to “practice” on public roads. Track days offer riders many opportunities to improve their skills and test their limits while providing a safe place to do so. Motorcyclists that abuse the speed and don’t respect it crash and often times die. I realize this and am committed to practicing safe and defensive driving on motorcycles while on public roads.

If you’re from southeast Georgia and you’d like to ride sometime look me up, I’m always looking for an open road and wind in my face.

New Motorcycle

Britton on BikeI just wanted to show off my new bike. It’s a ‘01 Yamaha V-Star 1100 Classic. There are a lot of custom items on it like Mustang seats and sissy bar, floorboards with heel/toe shifter, handlebar riser, chrome highway bar with footpegs, Star saddlebags, and chrome light bar with visors. Britton on Bike 2It also has a Cobra exhaust that gives it a loud roar when cruising. Loud pipes save lives you know. :) To complete the look it has a lowering kit. I’ve been told by the previous owner that it can be lowered one more notch with this kit but that it’s already so low that you need to watch Braelyn on Bikeout when going over speed bumps.

Now I’m just looking for some open road. I’ve said it everytime I talk about it but if I’d have known owning a bike were this fun I would’ve bought one years ago!

See you on the road!

Trusting in Biblical creation

This post has been copied from a post in a school discussion forum. The question asked was: Is there a story of origin or creation that you learned as you were growing up? If there was none, did you find one in the assigned reading or on your own that you find fascinating. What is it? Why does it fascinate you? Is it one you would share with your children, or other family members and friends?

This is your brain on time…

Well, the score is on the board now. College Algebra 1, Kevin, 0. I have just withdrawn from a class that I’m sure I would have failed had I not. It has been more than 10 years since I have taken an algebra course and my mind has had to focus on too many other things since then. So much so that the parts of the algebra class that I didn’t sleep through in high school have long been either pushed to the far depths of my brain or shoveled out with the trash over time. In any case I was sorely unprepared for this course and after the first week I knew that it just wasn’t going to work out. I still have the book though and hopefully I will be able to study and get the basicsĀ  down so that I can succeed at this course next time.

Shards of Glass

This week started off difficult for me because I awoke Monday morning with strep throat. I could hardly move when I rolled out of bed. Then when I was able to get to work I felt even worse. After about 10 minutes my boss sent me home for the morning to get some rest. (more…)
